Beating Bosses in PokéBonk
Updated

Boss rules every player should know
- Two phases: at low HP a guardian roars into Fury, attacks faster and chains signature moves.
- No one-shots: a single boss attack takes at most one third of your HP, but leaves you Wounded (half healing for 4 s).
- Adaptive HP: boss HP scales with your damage, within a cap and a minimum (Season 2 added an “Endure” floor).
- Exhaustion: overlong fights make the boss take double damage every 20 s.
- Impatience: a guardian that takes no damage for 12 s attacks more often.
- Crowd control limit: after 2 s of freeze/sleep/stun a boss breaks free and ignores those statuses for 5 s.
- Telegraphed hits always deal a minimum amount after armor — pure tank builds cannot ignore them.
Elites, Totems and Summoners
Guardians bring an elite escort that leaps at you if you run far away. Minibosses include the Totem and the Summoner, which hides and reappears at a distance. On Nightmare a third Totem appears and elites explode on death.
Shrine legendaries
Each region ends at a shrine. Season 1 legendaries include Mew and Moltres, plus Mewtwo; Season 2 adds Zapdos (Storm Coast) and Articuno (Celestial Glacier). Legendaries have a 3% chance to appear shiny, and a beaten shiny waits for your Poké Ball, which never misses.
- Zapdos: stand next to a lightning rod so its bolts hit the rod; three charges discharge and knock Zapdos down, wide open.
- Articuno: hide behind a pillar so the bouncing Ice Beam freezes Articuno itself; dodge Sheer Cold as it sweeps the arena in sectors.
Season 2 guardians

Season 1

- Second region

Season 2
Storm Coast
Unlock: Complete Rocky Desert · Shrine: Zapdos (Thunder Cape Shrine)
- A tide floods the beaches roughly every 90 s and leaves pearls when it recedes
- Waterspouts pull up wild Pokémon — and you — then slam you down onto the horde

Guardians
- Kingler — Clamp Guard — attack it from behind
- Electrode — Minefield — walk it into its own mines
- Gyarados — Hyper Beam leaves it recharging and taking extra damage
- Tentacruel — Tentacle Forest — break the tentacles
- Starmie — Rapid Spin pinball — strike when it is dizzy
- Electabuzz — Thunder Cage — find the gap
Season 2
Celestial Glacier
Unlock: Complete Storm Coast · Shrine: Articuno (Sky Lake Shrine)
- Frozen lakes you slide across; momentum builds as you push one way
- Blizzards push you around — standing in the open builds Frost
- Articuno: hide behind a pillar so its bouncing Ice Beam freezes itself; watch for Sheer Cold sweeping sectors
Guardians
- Dewgong — Ice Sled
- Hypno — Hypnotic Pendulum
- Cloyster — Shell — barely damaged when closed, nearly double damage when open
- Jynx — Lovely Kiss & Sing — infatuation inverts your controls
- Lapras — Ice floes — take cover behind its ice
- Alakazam — Future Sight — your own trail detonates
Rhydon's Roar (Classic only)
Touch Rhydon’s altar up to three times per zone before waking the guardian. Each roar gives the guardian +30% HP, +12% damage and one more elite — and drops an extra Great Ball per roar when you win. A risk-for-loot dial.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the boss HP bar barely move?
Boss HP adapts to your damage. Keep hitting: Exhaustion kicks in if the fight lasts much longer than expected.
How do you beat Zapdos in PokéBonk?
Lure its lightning into the rods. Three charged rods discharge and knock Zapdos down, leaving it very vulnerable.
Can legendaries be shiny?
Yes, with a 3% chance in their own appearances. A beaten shiny can always be caught.
